My banjo was built in 1983 by Bill Sullivan, founder of First Quality Musical Supplies in Louisville, KY. Bill carved the neck and peghead and fit it to the 3-ply maple rim. I cut and inlaid all the mother of pearl for the fingerboard and peghead, applied the bindings and the 2 rings on the back of the resonator, and finished the banjo with clear lacquer. I always wished I
had stained the banjo with a sunburst, but with the rings on the back
I knew it would be beyond my abilities. 22 years later, I decided to restore
the banjo, so I had Leo Posch do all the staining and finishing. |
